Alex Allen - 1926-2009
Alex Allen, 82, of Ashland, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center.
He was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Letcher County, Ky., the son of the late Dewey and Gertrude Gullett Allen.
He was a retired salesman for Betsy Ross Bakery, a World War II Army veteran and of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Raleigh Allen, Cartie Allen, Lonnie Allen, Richard Allen, Murph Allen, Bill Allen and Gene Allen.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Faye Bailey Allen of Ashland; a daughter, Linda Sue Knuckles of Ashland; a son, Billy Ray Allen of Ashland; two grandchildren, Tonya Cron and her husband, Lee, and Andrew Knuckles and his wife, Kim; a great-granddaughter, Whitney Knuckles; two special great-grandchildren, Britney and Hannah Blair; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be at noon today, April 25, 2009, at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Tommy Romans and the Rev. Ron Evans officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:45 a.m. today at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland.
