Ambrose Johnson - 1922-2008
Ambrose Johnson, 86, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday morning, July 8, 2008, in King's Daughters Medical Center.
Mr. Johnson was born March 8, 1922, in Rush, Ky., a son of the late Will and Annie Ball Johnson.
He was also preceded in death by brothers Edward Johnson and Bobby Jack Johnson and sisters Esta Unrue, Jessie Rady, Rosa Barber, Jean Withrow, Frances Pennington and Catherine Bostick.
He was a construction worker and laborer and retired from the city of Ashland. He was of the Baptist faith, a member of Local 1445 and a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Jane "Polly" Salyers Johnson of Ashland; sons Roger Johnson and wife Rita of Catlettsburg, Ky., Bill Reffitt of Mableton, Ga., James Robert Johnson of Ashland and Kenneth Reffitt and companion Marynell Vanover of Plain City, Ohio; a brother, Bill Johnson of Ironton, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by two loving daughters-in-law, Wendy Reffitt and Susan Reffitt, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2008, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Larry Riley.
Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
