Bill Johnson (1922-2008)
Bill Johnson, 85, of Mayo Trail, Catlettsburg, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 14, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Johnson was born July 12, 1922, in Fallsburg, Ky., the son of the late Ed and Susanna Salyers Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Irene Grubb Johnson; a grandson, Michael Harris; three sisters; and five brothers.
Bill leaves behind two children, Lois Harris and her husband, John, of Flatwoods, Ky., and Billy Johnson and his wife, Kathy, of Catlettsburg; four grandchildren, Scott, Todd, Lisa and Emily; eight great-grandchildren, Paige, Brady, Christian, Isabella, Breanna, Donavan, Madalyn and Hannah; and a brother, Carl Johnson of Louisa, Ky.
He was a member of England Hill Freewill Baptist Church, where he was a trustee for many years. Bill served our great nation honorably during World War II, European Theatre, with the 346 Army Ordnance Division, and retired after 33 years as an insulator at the Ashland Oil No. 2 Refinery.
A funeral service in honor of Bill Johnson will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at England Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Catlettsburg. Pastor Willie May will offer words of comfort. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Those wishing to call on the Johnson family may do so from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg.
