Daniel Laney

December 4, 1943 — January 28, 2011

Daniel Michael Laney passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, Jan. 28, 2011, of a sudden illness.

Danny was born on Dec. 4, 1943, to the late Bill and Clora Davis Laney. He graduated in 1962 from Thomas R. Brown High School, then a year later he married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Shivel. Together they were blessed with two chidren, Mike (Lisa) Laney and Jeannie (Mike) Pinkerman, both of Catlettsburg and four grandchildren, Danielle Laney, Josh Laney, Emily Pinkerman and Isaac Laney. He is also survived by his brothers, Billy Gene Laney of Dublin, Ohio, David Laney of Catlettsburg; a sister, Linda (Leo) Zornes of Catlettsburg; his aunt, Ernestine Cordle of Ashland; and special extended family, Jim (Diane) Shivel of Palm Coast, Fla., and family, Carolyn Crank and Linda McCorkle, both of Catlettsburg. He also leaves behind his granddogs Reba, Roxie and his constant companion, Buster.

Danny was employed at National Mines in the maintenance department for 20 years until they closed and he retired in 2010 from Boyd County Fiscal Court in the maintenance department. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, drag racing, golfing and tending to his many fish in his homemade pond. Although Danny didn't attend regularly, he considered Catlettsburg First Church of the Nazarene his church.

Funeral services to honor Mr. Laney will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at the Kilgore and Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Pastor Frank Hulett will offer a message of comfort. Final rest in Golden Oaks Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
