Delbert Penix (1939-2009)
Delbert Grey Penix, 70, of Ashland died Saturday at the Pikeville Medical Center. He was born Jan. 23, 1939, in Ashland, the son of the late Elzie Sr. and Goldie Robbins Penix. He was a former employee of Kentucky Electric Steel and was a member of the United Steelworkers Union. He was an avid Ashland Tomcat football fan.
He also was preceded in death by his wife, Annabelle Penix; six brothers, Elzie Penix Jr., Manuel Penix, Billy Penix, Curtis Penix, Roy Penix and Ray Allen Penix; and two sisters, Betty Jean Blanton and Leatta Meade.
Survivors include one daughter, Delberta (James Selogic) Penix of Ashland; two sisters, Judy (David) Lamothe of Flatwoods and Helen Barker of Ashland; three brothers, Floyd (Wilma) Penix and Charles Penix, both of Ashland and Sam Penix of Flatwoods; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens with Perry Young officiating.
The family will receive friends after 11:30 a.m. and until the funeral time on Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland
