Dorothy Alley - 1920-2008
Dorothy "Jimmie" Alley, 88, of Catlettsburg, amidst her children, passed away early Saturday morning, August 9, 2008, at the King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. She was born Jan. 18, 1920, at Macbeth in Logan County, W.Va., a daughter of the late George W. and Lydia Vanatter Early. Her husband of 45 years, John Sanford Alley, preceded her in death in 1998. She was a homemaker, enjoyed planting flowers and watching court TV and was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church in Catlettsburg.
This loving mother leaves behind three sons, Phillip Scaggs of Foley, Ala., Harlan Scaggs, his wife Laura, of Detroit, Mich., and Patrick Alley of Huntington; three daughters, Sally Pyles, her husband Ira, of Hernando, Fla., and Sue Grimmett, her husband Arnold, and Kim Alley, of Catlettsburg; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, all who were adored by their ma maw; special in-laws, Janet Roark, Jim and Frances Alley, Bill and Connie Alley, Frank Alley and companion Eleanor, Lois and Bill Marushi, Dottie Spradlin, Charlene Williams, favored friends, Lisa Vanallen and Jim Dixon; and her little furry buddy, Sam.
In celebration of Dorothy Alley's life, a service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. Words of comfort and reassurance will be offered by Pastor Mike Blankenship. Final rest to follow at the Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland, with her children serving as casket bearers.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
