Dorothy Nestor

Dorothy Louise Strait Nestor, 93, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Henry Clay Strait Sr. and Emma Louise Daggett Strait.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ernest Nestor; a son, Ronald Nestor; sisters Helen Leas and Emma Jo Crace; brothers Gene Straight and Henry Strait Jr.; a niece, Jean Straight; and a granddaughter, Kelly Nestor.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. Michael Nestor and wife Julie of Bellefonte and Stephen and wife Jane of Huntington, W.Va.; a daughter, Karen Nestor of Ashland; a brother, Richard Strait, and wife Harriet of Franklin, Ohio; grandchildren Chris Little, Valerie Colvin and husband Otis, Megan Nestor, Jake Watson, Rachel Nestor, Josh Nestor, Michael Nestor Jr. and Laura Nestor; great-grandchildren Ethan Nestor, Anna Marie Colvin and Natalie Colvin; seven nieces; and six nephews.

Dorothy Nestor grew up in Catlettsburg, graduating from Thomas R. Brown High School in 1937, then receiving a degree in mathematics from Berea College in 1941. She taught at Thomas R. Brown High School during the 1950's, Paul G. Blazer from 1963-75, and Coles and Putnam Junior High Schools from 1975 to 1979. She received a masters of education from Morehead University in 1974.

She was a member of Normal Presbyterian Church from 1953 until present, where at various times she sang in the choir, played piano for Sunday school, taught Sunday school, taught Bible school, served as an elder and participated in the quilting group.

She attended nursing school at Ashland Community College, receiving an associate degree in nursing in 1984. She also worked at the bloodmobile for many years.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg, followed by a graveside service at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 28, 2013, at the funeral home.
