Harold Wheeler - 1924-2009
Harold Martin Wheeler, 85, of Ashland, Ky., passed on to join the Lord Wednesday morning, Nov. 25, 2009, at Sunset Nursing Home in Coal Grove, Ohio, following an extended illness. He was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Ashland to the late Ora and Norma Murray Wheeler.
He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Ashland, a retired Chief Clerk from C&O Railroad, a WWII and Korean War purple heart veteran, a member of the Clarence Fields Post American Legion 76, Ashland Elks BPOE 350, Poage Lodge 350 F&AM, Indra Consistory Valley of Covington Scottish Rite Mason, and El Hasa Shrine.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Yates Wheeler in 1995; and two brothers, Jim and Don Wheeler.
Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Roberts and husband Jon of Ashland; a brother, Paul Wheeler of Minneapolis, Minn.; four grandchildren, Julie Amani, Philip Roberts, Matthew (Nikki) Roberts and Lindsey Roberts; and two great-grandchildren, Chelsea Brewer and Lily Roberts.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens by Rev. Lance Campbell with military honors by the Ironton VFW Post 8850.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. at Monday at Preston Family Funeral Home.
