Jack Brown Sr., 93, of Catlettsburg, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Mr. Brown was born April 5, 1920, in Boyd County, a son of the late John Milton Brown Sr. and Catherine Lillian Dalton Brown.

Jack served our great nation honorably with the U.S. Navy as a Fireman 2nd class, he retired from the C&O Railroad in 1983 and attended Straight Creek Nazarene Church. He enjoyed gardening and hunting, and would share the fruits of his labor with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Molly Brown, Margaret Brown, Hazel Giles, Blanch Miller and Mertie Shumway; brothers, Enoch, Milton, Ed, Tom and Walter Brown.

Surviving are his loving wife of 73 years, Emma Gussler Brown; a son, Jack Brown Jr. and wife Kay of Catlettsburg; daughters, Colleen Adkins and husband Marvin of Greenup, Louise Green of Catlettsburg; brother, Harold Brown of Catlettsburg; sisters, Bernice Walker of Louisville and Billie Chaffins of Mason, Ohio. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Don Franklin Johnson Jr. (Marissa), Velvet Brown Childers (Derek), David Keith Johnson, Marvin A. Adkins (Kristen), Jack Edward Adkins (Aimee) and James David Brown (Beth); eight great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Johnson, Alisia Brown, Gary Brown, Emmeline Adkins, Wyatt Adkins, Walker Adkins, Jackson Childers and Katie Childers.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg with words of comfort offered by Pastor Randy Biggs. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
