James Clay - 1927-2008
James Robert Clay, 81, of Ashland, formerly of Court Street in Catlettsburg, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 25, 2008, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Clay was the son of the late Charles Albert Clay and Beatrice Burchett Clay Keyser, born March 13, 1927, in Wayne County, W.Va. His wife of 28 years, Minnie Marie Clay, preceded him in death. He attended Wayne County schools, retired from Kentucky Electric Steel, and enjoyed playing bingo.
Surviving James is a loving family including, five daughters, Deborah Jean Clay of Columbus, Ohio, Rebecca Sue Bucurel and her husband, Larry of Mimis, Fla., Patricia Ann Clay, Della Lee Mills and her husband, Robert, and Marilyn Louise Kirk, all of Ashland; children by marriage, Nancy Potts, Jean Ross, Lonnie Steele, Linda Adkins, and Keith Hall; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Clay and Dorothy Clay, both of Wayne, W.Va.; 20 wonderful grandchildren, and 20 precious great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are four brothers, Thomas Clay, Charles Clay, Edward Clay and Herman Clay; two sisters-in-law, Polly Clay and Ilene Clay; and a son by marriage, Donald Ray Hall.
A funeral service in remembrance of James Clay will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at the Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort will be offered by Pastor Philip Knipp. Final rest will follow at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
The Clay family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
