Jay F. Johnson, 69, of Ashland, Ky., died Sunday, May 3, 2009, in King's Daughters Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 24, 1939, in Ironton, Ohio, a son of the late Clyde Johnson and Ruth Ballard Johnson.
He was retired from Marathon Ashland. He was a member of the Ohio and Kentucky National Guard for 24 years and a member of New Valley Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Bluebaum Johnson; a son and daughter-in-law, Howard (Melissa) Johnson of Ashland; three grandchildren, Blake, Megan and Chandler, all of Ashland; and a sister, Jeanine Pinkerman of South Point, Ohio.
The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by Pastor Mike Gullett. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, May 6, 2009, at the funeral home.
Members of the Ashland Tomcats baseball team will serve as pallbearers: Nick Jackson, Cris Duvall, Chris Tucker, Alex Bonnett, Josh Miller, Chandler Jackson and Trey Keaton.
