Louis Edward Padgett - 1934-2010
Louis Edward Padgett, 75, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday afternoon, Jan. 1, 2010, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born Jan. 29, 1934, in Washington, D.C. to the late Lawrence Edward and Margaret Esther Hilt Padgett. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Bailey Padgett, whom he married Aug. 31, 1963, in Washington, D.C.
He was a United States Marine and a Korean War Veteran, a member of the Retired Police Officers Association in Washington, D.C. and director of Cannonsburg UMC Food Pantry. He attended elementary and high school in Clinton, Maryland and completed high school with a GED diploma from U.S.M.C. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant, a police officer in New Orleans, La., Slidell, La. and Washington, D.C., a school bus driver for Boyd County Board of Education, a deputy jailer at the Boyd County Jail in Catlettsburg, Ky., a truck driver for Ashland Petroleum-Big Sandy Asphalt Division, was on the board of directors for the Cannonsburg Fire District and the Cannonsburg Water District.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Debra (Mark) Foster of Ashland and Barbara Price and Dr. Mark K. Scott of Ashland; brothers, Don Padgett of S.C., Martin Padgett of Md. and Bobby Padgett of Md.; grandchildren, Tyler Daniels, currently serving in the U.S. Army in Ariz., Krystin Daniels, currently serving in the U.S. Army in Wash., Brittani Price of Ashland and Morgan Price of Ashland.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Edward "Butch" Padgett and a sister, Mary Jane Cable.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel by Pastor Jim Barrett. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 3, 2010, at the funeral home chapel.
