Morris Craft

Morris Craft, 88, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

He was born Dec. 17, 1924, in Royalton, to Menifee Craft and Jessie Salyers.

Morris was a self-employed barber. He was a member of the U.S. Army, landing at Omaha Beach, and was a decorated soldier. He was also a combat medic, a military member of Purple Heart 591 and was awarded the Bronze Star, four Battle Stars, two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star. Morris belonged to First Methodist Church of Catlettsburg. He was a Kentucky colonel and a member of American Legion Clarence Fields Post 76, the Elks and the VFW. He was a veteran resource director and a member of the Grayson DAV chapter.

Morris was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Click; a daughter, Mary Helen Travis Lucas of Catlettsburg and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Sandy City Methodist Church in Catlettsburg by the Rev. Chuck Allen and Pastor Henry Montgomery. He will lie in state for an hour before services. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland. A military service will be conducted at the graveside by Ceredo-Kenova American Legion Post 93.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 6, 2013, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland.
