Nola Colvin - 1931-2008
Nola Cox Colvin, 77, of Catlettsburg, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
Mrs. Colvin was born Aug. 3, 1931, in Lawrence County, Ky., a daughter of the late Sheridan Cox Sr. and Ollie Workman Cox. Her husband of 53 years, Foster V. Colvin Jr., preceded her in death in 2004. She was a wonderful homemaker, cook and candy maker. She was a member of Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church.
Sadly left behind is her family: three daughters, Ollie Colvin and Jo Ann Colvin, both of Catlettsburg, and Elizabeth (Billy) Cline of Ashland; six brothers, Ira Cox, Richard (Faye) Cox and the Rev. Burl (Lorene) Cox, all of Catlettsburg, the Rev. Paul (Carolyn) Cox of Louisa and Pete (Barbara) Cox and Larry (Anna) Cox, all of Ashland; a sister, Sue (Lonnie) Steele of Catlettsburg; her granddaughters, Christy (Mark) Deerfield of Kannapollis, N.C., and Susie (Cliff) Massie of Catlettsburg; great-granddaughters Sydni Massie and Emily Massie; and lovingly called Mammy by Nancy and Chris Rogers of Edmond, Okla., Brad Steele of Catlettsburg, Ray, Dee and Darian Steele of Ashland, Paula, Roger, Craig and Noah Lambert of Louisa, Ky., and Kim, Megan, Jeremy, Paige and Devyn Snead of Louisa.
Preceding her in death were a brother, Sheridan Cox Jr., and three sisters, Ida Hughes, Mary Cantrell and Birdie Phillips.
A funeral service in remembrance of Nola Colvin will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. The Rev. Paul Cox will offer words of inspiration and comfort, with a heartfelt eulogy by the Rev. Mike Cox and personal comments from the Rev. Billy Harris. Special music will be by Melissa Cox.
Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland. Serving as casket bearers will be Ray Steele, Brad Steele, Cliff Massie, Mark Cox, Chris Rogers and Noah Lambert.
Those wishing to call on the Colvin family may do so from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
