Phillip Caldwell

November 13, 1947 — June 13, 2010

Phillip David Caldwell, 62, of Catlettsburg, passed away Sunday evening, June 13, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Caldwell was born Nov. 13, 1947, son of the late Lute B. "June" and Garnet L. Barnett Caldwell.
Phillip was a loving, caring, generous friend to all who knew him. He graduated from Catlettsburg High School, where he excelled in all sports but especially loved football, and went on to play for Morehead State University.
Phillip was a faithful supporter of Boyd County athletics and a fixture of the "Sweet Sixteen" basketball tournament in Lexington for 46 years. He was a member of Catlettsburg City Council, the Park Board and Elks Lodge 942. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are Phillip's loving wife of 48 years, Billie Wellman Caldwell, and their children, Christy Caldwell of Flatwoods, Sherri Dawn Childers (Joe) of Catlettsburg and David Caldwell (Tracy) of Catlettsburg; a brother, Keith Caldwell of Catlettsburg; sisters Sharon Taylor (Jimmy), Gwen Neely (Jim), Teresa Fischer (Bob) and Cindy Helms (Bernie), all of Catlettsburg; grandchildren Maegen Terry and Karli Jo Childers; his mother-in-law, Kathleen Wellman; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special lifelong friend, Mike Wilson.
Funeral services to honor Phillip Caldwell's life will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Jason Porter will offer words of comfort and Mike Wilson will offer a personal eulogy. His final resting place will be Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mere words could not begin to express how great of a loss Phillip's family and friends will insure in the days ahead. His endearing personality and gentle spirit has touched countless lives and he will truly be missed.
