Ruth Bates (1916-2009)
Ruth Hunt Bates, 92, of Catlettsburg, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Bates was a daughter of the late William and Della Appleton Hunt, born Oct. 19, 1916, in Ashland, Ky. Her husband, Cecil Woodrow Bates, preceded her in death.
She was a floral designer for many years with Dee's Flowers of Catlettsburg and later worked in the loan department of Kentucky Farmers Bank. She was a member of the Democrat Club and Catlettsburg United Methodist Church. Ruth enjoyed golf, pie baking and playing bridge with her friends.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Missie and Steven Elmquist of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a brother, Tom Hunt of Catlettsburg; six grandchildren, Jeff Nichols, Don Nichols Jr., Mike Nichols, Mark Nichols, Christopher Bates and Dr. Donald Payne; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a daughter, Susan Nichols; a son, John William Bates; a sister, Helen Hunter; and four brothers, Ralph Hunt, William Hunt, Bob Hunt and James Hunt.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today, March 7, 2009, at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland. Officiating will be Pastor Charles Allen.
In lieu of floral tributes, contributions may be made in Ruth's honor to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg is in charge of arrangements.
